William “Billy” Gonzalez Barnes is an undergraduate biomedical sciences student and pre-medical student researcher at the University of West Florida. He earned an Associate of Arts degree cum laude from Pensacola State College and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Billy is also an NREMT-B and Florida Level A EMS Instructor with experience as a firefighter/EMT, EMS training officer, continuing education content developer, and volunteer medical assistant at a community free clinic. His path toward clinical care is rooted in prehospital care, patient communication, and a desire to guide patients through uncertainty. Through mentored research, he is developing a parallel interest in clinical trial access and responsible AI use in healthcare. He contributes to a student-faculty project using AACT/ClinicalTrials.gov metastatic breast cancer trial criteria to create synthetic oncology profiles and evaluate AI eligibility reasoning without real patient data or PHI.
